“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”
– Winston Churchill
What Is 1440?
1440 is a personal development site dedicated to helping you reach your potential. There are 1,440 minutes in a day. If we sleep for eight hours on average, we have 960 minutes (16 hours) left to make something great happen!
The Inspiration Behind 1440
The quote above fuels me and is the driving force behind the creation of 1440. You can’t propel yourself forward unless you’re committed to it. It’s not a once in a while thing. It needs to be a consistent effort over time. Little by little, step by step, you will unlock the keys to reaching your potential.
My parents were teachers and I’ve always had the itch to teach, coach and learn. Oh yeah, my wife was also a teacher before we started a family. Go figure.
What 1440 Aims To Do For You
My goal is to provide practical advice around ways to help you get better in many facets of life. This can be in the minutiae of day to day living or in the higher level thinking like leaving a legacy and finding your purpose.
Much of what I write is pretty basic stuff, but I find that it’s the basic stuff we struggle with a lot of times. You will hear me talk about doing the little things right that make the biggest impact. One of the biggest influences on me has been Getting Things Done by David Allen. There have been many others but that’s been a huge one over the last few years, so you will see that influence in my writing.
Some of the key ways I aim to help you reach your potential:
- Making the Most of Each Day via productivity advice
- Managing your energy appropriately
- Thinking/working like an athlete
- Identifying what your passion and purpose are (without this, are you truly reaching your potential)
- Implementing Rituals
- Engaging in consistent practices that ingrain Grade A habits
A Little Bit More About Me
I grew up in Cleveland, lived in Chicago for a few years after school and now live in Columbus, Ohio. I’m married to an incredible woman (Michelle) and have two amazing kids (Gabe, 3, and Reese, 1). I’m a sports nut and played soccer in college. Yes, it’s tough being a sports fan from Cleveland : ) I do Crossfit as my workout and throw some yoga in there as well. I love to read and love to write. I also work in corporate software sales and travel throughout the country (and work from my home office when I’m not on the road). Last, but not least, I’m on the board of an incredible non-profit called Creative Living. We provide independent living for adults with severe physical disabilities.
